Meet William “Skip” Francis

It was a beautiful spring day in 2022, and I was on my back deck enjoying the afternoon. Almost 32 years as a police officer for Chesterfield County, and I was four months away from retirement. I was only 54 and in great health. I loved to work, so the idea of sitting at home and “enjoying” my retirement was not appealing.

I had a running list of part-time gigs that I was considering as options for work, from Uber driver to bartender. I was scrolling social media and came upon a “drivers needed” ad for a company named Rented Truck Driver.

I went to the link for the site and entered my information, thinking it was probably a scam.

Within five minutes, the phone rang, and a male with a strong northern accent asked for me. This was Frank Futie, the owner of Rented Truck Driver. One of the first things he told me was, “32 years as a police officer is all I need to know. I will hire you if you get your CDL and pass the background check.”

We talked for a while, and he explained how the company works, but I was still skeptical. As a police officer, I had worked several fraud cases involving moving companies. It is a very shady industry!

As I got close to my retirement date of July 1, 2022, I decided to work for my county as a bus driver, driving sports teams to and from games in the afternoons. I obtained my Class B CDL through the county and began working a few days a week.

I called Frank to let him know I’d gotten my CDL, and he said he would submit a background check and, once that was approved, he’d add me to his available drivers list. I was still super skeptical, and it was four to six weeks before I got my first trip (off-season for moving).

My first trip was from Philadelphia to New Orleans. I took a train from Richmond, VA to Philly and met with the client. The trip took two and a half days to arrive in New Orleans and then I flew back to Richmond. The trip was super smooth, and I even delivered a day earlier than scheduled.

“Wow… it can’t be this good!?” I thought.

Since then, I have done 40+ drives for Rented Truck Driver. I believe this is the best moving company on the planet! From the time the contract is started until delivery to the client’s new home, the client is given white glove service.

We chat about the logistics of the move prior to the start date. We keep in touch with the client during the drive from start to finish. On most of my drives, the client ends the trip with a big hug and a heartfelt thank you.

For 32 years, I made a difference serving my community as a police officer, and I knew I would miss that greatly. I get the same feeling now driving with Rented Truck Driver.
